Share

Mission College will begin its 20th Anniversary Celebration at 11:30 a.m. Thursday with a ground-breaking ceremony for the college’s $11-million library and learning resources center.

The new three-level facility will encompass 57,000 square feet and includes a 24,425-square-foot library--three times the size of the current makeshift library, located in the basement of the campus center.

The new building also will house a computer center, tutoring center, teleconference center and an audiovisual studio. The building is expected to be completed by the fall of 1997. When it’s done, the number of computer terminals available to Mission College students will increase from 130 to 530.

Funding for the facility was obtained through a state bond measure approved by voters in 1992. Construction will be carried out by Lewis Jorge Construction Management Inc. of Orange County.

The addition of the new facility brings the total number of buildings on the college campus to five. Mission College serves about 5,800 students.
