SIMI VALLEY : Man Arrested After Pre-Dawn Car Theft

Share

Amber Boyman of Simi Valley might have lost sleep when she got up about 3 a.m. Wednesday to feed her baby. But she also saved about $2,500, the value of her stolen Camaro.

Arrested on suspicion of auto theft after the pre-dawn incident was Pedro I. Chavez, 19, of Los Angeles, Simi Valley Police Sgt. Mike King said. Boyman’s 1984 Chevrolet Z28 was recovered.

Boyman, while feeding her infant, heard someone pulling her car away from her house on the 1500 block of Los Amigos Avenue. She quickly called police, King said.

He said Officer Matt Hopkins stopped the vehicle on the eastbound Simi Valley Freeway and took the suspect into custody without incident.

Sgt. Bruce Macedo said Chavez was being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He is to be arraigned Friday.
