More than 1,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout Southern California are expected to join a fund-raiser today to benefit a local homeless shelter, an event spokeswoman has announced.

Called “Harleys for the Homeless,” the event will consist of a ride from Santa Ana to Stateline, Nev., with proceeds going to HomeAid Orange County, a nonprofit group based in Irvine. The ride will begin at 10 a.m. and drawings for prizes will be held at Whiskey Pete’s Hotel and Casino in Nevada the following day. Riders will return Sunday, spokeswoman Donna Hahn said.

Registration materials are available at local Harley-Davidson dealerships; participants are required to register in advance. The entry fee is $35 per rider and $15 per passenger.
