World IN BRIEF : ITALY : U.S. Boy Declared Clinically Dead

A 7-year-old American boy, shot by bandits on an Italian highway, was declared clinically dead, and his organs were readied for transplant at his parents’ request. Nicholas Green of Bodega Bay, Calif., was shot in the head while riding in his family’s rented car through Calabria on the way to Sicily on Thursday night. Bandits drove up beside the car and fired several shots, putting Nicholas in a coma. Gangs of robbers are known to prey on motorists on that stretch of roadway in southern Italy.
