LOS ANGELES : Council Cuts Off Overtime to Top DWP Officials

Share

The City Council moved Wednesday to prevent any more top managers at the Department of Water and Power from claiming overtime, which has permitted top bureaucrats to receive massive severance checks when they left office.

The council decided to cut off overtime payments after DWP General Manager Dan Waters cashed in a total of $75,000 in accumulated overtime when he left office in February.

Waters had been ineligible to receive the payments as the DWP’s top official, but he accepted a demotion to assistant general manager on his last day, allowing him to receive the funds. The council action would prevent both DWP general managers and assistant general managers from receiving overtime pay.
