Free Rock on Monday

In regard to “Free Rock on Monday: Too Good to Last?” (Sept. 19), I would like to mention a few points of information about Bubblegum Crisis that I don’t believe Heidi Siegmund was aware of.

To start with, Bubblegum Crisis is an independent club, and, while we enjoy a very good relationship with the ownership there, it is not a Monday Hell’s Gate theme night and it is not always free. In the six months that we have been operating, we have used a number of locations, and to cover our expenses we do charge admission when we have to (although it is usually only $3 and never more than $5).

Second, Bubblegum Crisis is a club that specifically features pop music and L.A. pop bands (e.g., the Wondermints, the Sugarplastic, Three Day Wheelie, Moonpulls and Caterpillars). We book these kinds of bands exclusively, and the people who come to the club do so because they know that these are the kinds of bands that they are going to see.

Regardless of location or admission charge, we usually have about the same number of people on a given night. As for most of the alternative rock acts mentioned in the article, as far as I’m concerned, Lingerie’s Mary Nixon can have them.
