Vista Bus Adds Oak Park Service

Share

Attempting to boost ridership and save money on the new Vista countywide bus system, the Ventura County Transportation Commission Friday added service to Oak Park and reduced the frequency of some routes.

The commission also released September ridership figures showing that use of the intercity express buses jumped 24% in September, from 13,619 rides to 16,898 rides.

“It looks encouraging,” commission Executive Director Ginger Gherardi said. She said she hoped use of the service would continue to grow as residents become more aware of the buses, which began running in July.

Under the proposed schedule, northbound buses will stop at Oak Park High School at 5:55 and 9:05 a.m., and southbound buses will stop at the school at 2:20 and 5:40 p.m.

If the Board of Supervisors approves the schedule, commission members said they hope to start the service Oct. 31.

Also, Vista service will be reduced beginning Oct. 31 on the central and east routes.

Buses now run every 30 minutes during peak hours and every hour during off-peak periods.

To reduce costs, buses will run every hour at peak times and every 90 minutes during off-peak periods.
