Top Players Gain Senior Tennis Finals
The top-seeded players in the 65- and 75-year-old divisions reached the finals of the United States Tennis Assn. National Women’s Hardcourts senior tennis tournament Friday at Newport Beach Tennis Club.
Doris Clark of Laguna Beach, the No. 1 seeded player in the 65s, moved into today’s 9:30 a.m. final against June Gay of Piedmont. Clark defeated Elaine Mason of Fresno, 7-5, 6-1, and Gay advanced with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Louise Owen of Evansville, Ind.
Top-seeded Dodo Cheney of Santa Monica will meet Pat Stuhler of Brielle, N.J., in the final of the 75s, tentatively scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Cheney defeated Charlotte Decker of Laguna Hills, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1. Stuhler defeated Alice Beckenbach of Los Angeles, 6-2, 7-6.
