DO IT YOURSELF: Rhino Records is acknowledged as one of the best, if not the best, packager of compilations. So it’s hard to figure why Rhino executives would want your help. But they do.

As part of its “Sweet 16” anniversary, Rhino is holding a contest in conjunction with Tower Records for the best concept for a compilation album. The winner--to be selected on the basis of creativity, commercial viability and feasibility (i.e. the licensing availability of material)--will get compiler-producer credit and fees for the album.

“I’m expecting the entries to be an equal mix of serious and humorous approaches,” says Rhino vice president Gary Stewart. “But we’ll consider anything that’s viable.”
