WESTLAKE : Art College to Hold Drawing Workshops

Share

To give aspiring art students a taste of college-level art classes, the Otis College of Art and Design has added two free drawing workshops to the schedule for its traditional fall open house, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 16.

Faculty members will discuss the school’s programs, financial aid, how to put together a portfolio to apply to the school, and how to transfer class credits from community colleges. Afterward, prospective students may attend workshops offering professional instruction from the Otis staff.

“It will give them a sense of what a college drawing class will be like,” said Francy Balcomb, a spokeswoman for the college.

The Otis College of Art and Design offers bachelor of fine arts degrees in communication arts, environmental arts, fashion and fine arts. A majority of its students come from the Los Angeles area, and almost 50% are minorities, Balcomb said.

The school offers an annual average of $3 million in financial aid, including grants, loans and work-study programs, she said.

Admission to the open house is free.
