Cultural Night to Benefit Armenian Sister City

Share

To raise money for Thousand Oaks’ sister city, local performers will present an Armenian-American Cultural Night at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Civic Arts Plaza’s Forum Theatre.

Thousand Oaks’ sister city, Spitak, is located about 60 miles northwest of Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan. Residents there are still trying to rebuild after a devastating earthquake that struck the region nearly six years ago.

Members of Thousand Oaks’ Sister City Committee have visited Spitak and sent donations of money and humanitarian aid. Proceeds from Sunday’s concert will help the residents of Spitak rebuild.

Armenian-American performers include Arman Tigranyan, a 15-year-old violinist, and Salpi Kerkonian, a flutist who recently returned to her native Armenia to play with the Yerevan Philharmonic Orchestra. The program will open with a work by Albert Darakjian, a Westlake Village resident.

Tickets are $25, or $100 for special seating. Call 449-ARTS or Lauren Balekian at 482-0508.
