TUSTIN : Challenger Quits School Board Race

Karen M. Judkin has withdrawn as a school board candidate for the Tustin Unified School District in the Nov. 8 election.

Judkin, a business consultant, said last week that she withdrew because her family is moving out of the school district. She was running for a four-year seat on the board.

Her name will appear in the ballot, she said, because it was too late to have it removed, but she has told supporters that she has stopped campaigning.

With her withdrawal, six candidates will vie for the two open seats, including incumbents Jane Bauer, Nancy Cast and Gloria Matta Tuchman. The other candidates are businessmen Jonathan W. Abelove and Nimesh Desai, and Robert L. Douglas, a maintenance services employee.

Five other candidates are seeking a two-year seat on the board: Gail Michelsen, a computer product manager; Robert D. Machado, a computer software engineer; Jon H. Soeder, a business owner; David A. Lampert, a business owner, and Malcolm D. Jones, a part-time professor at UC Irvine.
