BREA : 1994-95 Infrastructure Budget Is Approved

The City Council has approved a capital-improvement budget of nearly $36.6 million for the 1994-95 fiscal year, about three times the amount spent on infrastructure during the previous fiscal year.

The budget, approved by the council last week, includes $15 million for improvements to the city’s water system, $10 million for street work, and $325,000 for parks. The city also set aside $8.5 million for facility improvements, with the single largest project being the Community Center that will be constructed at the northwest corner of Randolph Avenue and Madison Way. It will cost more than $7.9 million.

Other projects include infrastructure improvements in the downtown area, expansion of the intersection at Imperial Highway and State College Boulevard, and striping of bikeways throughout the city.

Mayor Glenn G. Parker pointed out that these are only budgeted amounts, and that all individual projects will come back to the council “for considerable scrutiny.”

Revenue sources for capital improvements include $15.2 million from the Brea Redevelopment Agency, $15 million from the municipal water fund, $5 million from miscellaneous city funds and $1.5 million from grants.
