Company Town : Spelling Entertainment Installs Group to Oversee Daily Operations

Spelling Entertainment named executives Peter H. Bachmann, Thomas R. Carson and J. Ronald Castell to a newly established Office of the President that will oversee the day-to-day operations.

Spelling is 78%-controlled by video retailer Blockbuster Entertainment, which was just acquired by Viacom Inc. A fourth member of the staff will be Steven R. Berrard, who was recently tapped to run Blockbuster by Viacom. Berrard serves as president and chief executive of Spelling.

Founder Aaron Spelling remains vice chairman of the company.

* James Broadway was appointed national director of rap A&R; for MCA’s Black Music Division. Separately, MCA’s Uni Distribution Corp. named Bob Schnieders executive vice president of sales and marketing.

* Michael Ameen says he’s parted ways with music executive and O.J. Simpson friend Robert Kardashian. Ameen was executive vice president at Movie Tunes, a company Kardashian heads that provides music for theaters and for vending machines that dispense compact discs.

Ameen cited the amount of time Kardashian has been spending away from the company on the Simpson case, as well as the unauthorized use of his name in a full-page ad in Hits magazine that featured a picture of Simpson.

* Twentieth Century Fox named Pizza Hut marketing executive Jeffrey B. Yapp as president of international home video.

* Fine Line Features named Marian Koltai-Levine as vice president of publicity and promotions.

* Donald G. Youpa has taken on the additional title of executive vice president and chief operating officer at KCET.
