No. 1 Giammartini Wins Tennis Match
Top-seeded Laurent Giammartini of France defeated 12th-seeded Ohmori Yasukatsu of Japan, 6-0, 6-2, to advance Wednesday in the men’s Open division of the U.S. Open of Wheelchair Tennis at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Also advancing were third-seeded David Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., fifth-seeded Steve Walsh of Bedford, Tex., and seventh-seeded Michael Foulks of La Jolla.
In women’s Open singles, Germany’s Regina Isecke, seeded third, defeated Mary Ann O’Neil of New Hope, Minn., 6-2, 6-2.
Competition continues today, including sixth-seeded Brad Parks of San Clemente taking on Jim Black of Oceanside, in the men’s Open division.
