VENTURA : City OKs Parking Lot Agreement

Share

Students at Cal State Northridge’s Ventura Campus should find parking easier and safer under an agreement allowing the university to build a new parking lot on city property.

The Ventura City Council approved a five-year lease for city land at the Seaward Water Treatment Plant next to the satellite campus. Instead of paying rent, CSUN will build a 101-space parking lot that will become the city’s property when the lease ends.

At the council meeting Monday, CSUN student Brian Rencher praised the plan, saying that with a record 1,400 students enrolled at the campus this fall, parking is difficult. While Rencher does not have trouble finding a parking spot, he said he found it dangerous pedaling his bicycle at night along Alessandro Drive, with cars parked on both sides of the street.

“I think this is a really good move,” Rencher said.

A CSUN official said she hoped that the parking lot will be open in time for the start of the spring semester in January.
