A city parks official will update residents on the status of major improvements scheduled or already under way at Sylmar Park, Stetson Ranch Equestrian Center and Hansen Dam Recreation Area at a meeting next week.

James Ward, principal grounds maintenance supervisor for the San Fernando Valley region, Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, will speak to the Sylmar Coordinating Council at noon Wednesday at Mission College, Room 1, 13356 Eldridge Ave.

Ward will discuss on-going work at the 28.8-acre undeveloped equestrian center. Improvements slated there include regrading the two riding arenas, installing fencing, repairing the staging/trailer lots and constructing an irrigation system to control dust. The center is scheduled to reopen March 29.

At Sylmar Park, two soccer fields will be ready for the spring season, and the park’s new baseball fields, swimming pool and recreational building have been completed, Ward said.

And at Hansen Dam, a groundbreaking ceremony for the new 1.5-acre swimming lake has been scheduled for Oct. 26.
