Appeals Boards Pay Structure Changed
Individuals serving on the county’s Assessment Appeals Boards will now be paid $50 less for meetings under four hours and $50 more for meetings that exceed the four-hour limit.
Currently, board members are paid $150 per meeting, regardless of the length.
County Clerk Richard Dean estimated the change in compensation would save the county about $7,500 a year, because most meetings are shorter than four hours.
The two, three-member appeals boards are composed of Supervisor John K. Flynn and Jane Tolmach, George Longo, Randy Churchill, Pat Schleve and Bob Adams.
Residents and businesses that believe their property has been unfairly appraised for tax purposes may seek to have it altered by the appeals boards.
The boards are scheduled to meet twice a week but only convene when appeals have been filed.
