Mobil Denies Report on Job Cuts: Mobil Corp. announced plans to make significant reductions in its worldwide support staff but denied a Washington Post story that as many as 15,000 jobs would be cut. That story, briefed in Tuesday’s editions of The Times, said the oil company planned to cut as many as 15,000 staff support jobs in a move to eliminate hundreds of millions of dollars in overhead costs. “Mobil has a total of 14,500 employees involved worldwide in staff functions,” the company said. “While a significant reduction in total staff head count worldwide is expected by the end of the year, the number has not yet been determined.”
