SYLMAR : Design Course Seeks Lighting Instructor

Share

Mission College is seeking an instructor to teach a new interior design course on lighting during the spring semester.

The course will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 17.

Sally Silvers, director of the college’s interior design discipline begun last year, said the ideal candidate would have an industry background in lighting and possess an associate degree in interior design or related field.

Mission College has the only complete interior design program in the Los Angeles Community College District. Programs offered include a one-year certificate program in interior design and an associate in arts degree program, which transfers to four-year colleges.

Interior design courses at the college formerly were offered through the family and consumer studies discipline.

The new design course offerings have been in high demand, school officials said.

“We seem to be attracting people from Palmdale and as far away as Long Beach,” Silvers said.

Those interested in applying to teach the course on lighting can call (818) 364-7693.

Silvers noted that the college recently opened a new student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers: “Our students can go out and earn a very nice living with just a two-year degree in interior design. Students can also transfer, but in this industry, it’s not really necessary.”
