FULLERTON : Council Approves Housing for Disabled
City Council members have given developers approval to build an affordable-housing complex for people with disabilities.
The developer, Rehabilitation Institute of Southern California, will offer the 25 apartment units at monthly rents ranging from $379 to $618, including utility costs.
As a condition of approval, the rents must remain at comparable levels for 99 years. Also, the city Redevelopment Agency will spend about $39,000 upgrading a water main at the 2.12-acre site.
The apartment complex will share its address, 2200 E. Chapman Ave., with another soon-to-be constructed project--a 27-unit apartment complex for lower-income people that drew complaints from dozens of residents who said it would create traffic problems.
The apartments for the disabled, however, prompted no such opposition and received unanimous approval from the council.
“It’s a worthwhile project,” Councilman Chris Norby said. “It addresses a specific need group.”
Completion of the project is expected by the end of 1996, officials said.
