EAST LOS ANGELES : Cable Shows Plan Turkey Giveaways

Share

The staffs of two cable television shows will combine their efforts this year to raise money for a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway that they hope will feed 100 families.

The shows, “East L.A. After Dark” and “Cruising With La Raza,” both on Buenavision Community Access Cable, will hold a fund-raiser from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Tequila’s Bar and Grill, 5226 E. Pomona Blvd., with comedian Diane Rodriguez and music by The Q Band. The turkey giveaway will be from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 19 for the first families arriving at Tequila’s.

“East L.A. After Dark” delivered 30 turkeys and food baskets last year, but this year the staffs of the shows decided that a combined effort would reach more families, said Dolores Guerrero-cruz, producer of “East L.A. After Dark.”

The turkey baskets include all the trimmings, including pies.

In its sixth year of production, “East L.A. After Dark” features politicians, students and people from the community--including the neighborhood Little League team--speaking about what’s important to them.

“Cruising With La Raza” debuted in 1990 and focuses on East Los Angeles and Southern California car clubs and events.

Admission is $5. The event will include food and door prizes such as T-shirts, books, CDs and art.
