Daunted Democrats

Share

It’s sad to read of the demise of Mike Kaspar’s “BeatBob” effort, and infuriating to read of Rep. Robert K. Dornan’s gloating. It’s embarrassing to think of the support this loose cannon gets from voters, and depressing to see the Democrats cave in once again.

But what can we expect? Democrats have, with notably few exceptions, shunned any “fire-in-the-belly” desire for a real fight that keeps Republicans elected to office. Voters want a leader who they know will fight to defend them, not a pack of wusses.

Democrats don’t have a monopoly on this. My own party waltzed away from me when I challenged Rob Hurtt in 1993, preferring to sit around the kitchen table holding hands.

* So there’s Mr. Dornan, standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Nice photo. But wait! In the crowd, next to him. . . .

Is that Forrest Gump?
