German Election Results

Your news analysis of the German election (“Kohl’s Real Challenge Comes After Election Win,” Oct. 18) has completely ignored the most important news of the event, namely that the right-wing Republican Party is now down to a mere 1.9% of the national popular vote.

With all the time and space you have spent over the years, warning and predicting that the danger of a repeat of 1933 should be taken seriously, because of the comparatively few racial incidents recently, the fact of the decline of the right in elections should not have been missed.

The actual swing has been to the center-left and more socialism.
