Biopool International’s Profits Up in Quarter

Biopool International Inc., a Ventura-based maker of medical test kits, reported vastly improved profits in the third quarter that ended Sept. 30.

Earnings in the latest quarter surged to $159,371, up from $32,629 in the same quarter a year earlier. Sales jumped 32% to $1.36 million from $1.03 million in the third quarter a year ago.

For the nine-month period, Biopool reported earnings of $549,198 on sales of $4.06 million, compared to year-earlier profit of $161,736 on revenue of $3.20 million.

Michael D. Bick, chief executive of the company, attributed the improved results to sales and marketing efforts that increased the company’s market share, as well as new products. During the third quarter, the company received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell a num ber of new products, including additions to the company’s line of kits used to test for drug abuse.
