Uninsured

Re “Can We Deny Aid to the Poor?” by Brian D. Johnston, Oct. 27: Amen! It is an incredible experience being one of the 37 million uninsured nationally, 5 million statewide and 2.6 million locally. In perspective one out of six people you meet is uninsured.
Recently I had to take an out-of-state visiting relative to a nearby hospital’s emergency room. Since she did not have any insurance, the hospital would not admit her. I had to deposit $3,500 up front before the hospital would even allow the doctors to look at her. While all this haggling was going on, she was experiencing excruciating pain. We ought to do something about this issue since tomorrow we can be one of the above statistics.
