CAMARILLO : Car-Protection Sheets Available

Share

Camarillo residents may pick up plastic sheets Saturday to protect their cars from aerial pesticide spraying aimed at wiping out the Mediterranean fruit fly.

The car covers will be available in the parking lot of Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sheets are being distributed by the Ventura County Fruitfly Action Cooperative Taskforce, a group of local growers and packinghouse officials.

The next aerial spraying is scheduled for Wednesday evening. It will cover the same 16-square-mile area that was sprinkled earlier with a sticky mixture of malathion and bait.

The sprayings are scheduled to continue for at least six months, until the 86-square-mile quarantine is lifted.

Residents in the spray zone are encouraged to reuse their car covers. If they cannot pick up car covers, sheets may be used to protect the paint finish.
