ON THE ROAD: R.E.M. and Neil Young...

ON THE ROAD: R.E.M. and Neil Young aren’t the only reasons concert promoters are looking eagerly to 1995’s prospects. Though this year’s lineup will be hard to top--Barbra Streisand, the Eagles, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd helping to ring up record ticket sales--next year’s expected road warriors are no slouches.

Leading the way is the expected “Unledded” tour reuniting Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, likely mixing stops at arenas and large amphitheaters with some stadium dates.

Other names that have promoters salivating include Van Halen (another stadium candidate, with a new album due in January), Elton John and perennial top-sellers Jimmy Buffett and the Grateful Dead. Pearl Jam’s expected tour is also tantalizing the concert world, though it comes with some question marks, given the band’s desire to stay away from conventional concert venues in favor of “alternative” sites.

The other big question marks concern two acts that were long dominant in the concert world but have been absent in recent years: Bon Jovi and Bob Seger.
