Remember Recall Spirit in Fullerton

Share

The efforts of Fullerton’s voters in last June’s recall election are close to being realized. The majority of the candidates in the Nov. 8 election say they will repeal the utility tax, or at worst let it expire. A balanced budget with no new taxes must no doubt follow.

Redevelopment is in the spotlight and will surely be restored to its only lawful purpose of aiding truly blighted areas within our city. Football stadiums, hilltop restaurants, railroad underpasses and hamburger stands are some of the things the recalled politicians spent redevelopment tax dollars on. Maybe now the taxes will be spent on real blight. Or maybe we don’t need redevelopment and the low-cost housing it brings.

But close counts only in the game of horseshoes! Reelecting the recalled city council member and reelecting a council member, both who think redevelopment is wonderful, may get Fullerton taxpayers exactly what they voted against last June.
