An inmate on a minimum-security work crew escaped from the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Michael Solis, 26, fled from a field next to the jail’s welding shop while he was working on a construction crew about 2:15 p.m., said Deputy Brian Jones of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Solis is described as Latino, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, Jones said. He was last seen in his prison uniform, a light-green jumpsuit.

Jones said Solis was originally arrested in October for furnishing marijuana to someone in Huntington Park and was sentenced to a year in County Jail. If recaptured, he will be assigned to a high-security unit in the jail, Jones said.
