Chairman William P. Foley II, 48, took on the additional post of chief executive, a role he assumed on a temporary basis Oct. 18 when Donald E. Doyle resigned as president and chief executive officer.

Daniel D. (Ron) Lane, 59, a member of a Foley-led investment group that late last year took a controlling interest in CKE Restaurants, was appointed vice chairman. Lane also was tapped for the newly created post of chief executive officer of Boston Pacific Inc., a CKE Restaurants unit that is opening Boston Chicken franchise restaurants throughout Southern California.

CKE Restaurants also selected Tom Thompson, 44, for the newly created position of president of its Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc. unit, which operates 650 Carl’s Jr. restaurants. Thompson, a longtime Carls’ Jr. franchisee, was picked as chief operating officer of the burger chain in October.

Kerry W. Coin, 47, chief operating officer of Boston Pacific Inc. was promoted to the new position of president of the chicken restaurant unit.

The management changes are designed to provide “added breadth to our corporate and operating unit structures,” Foley said. “We now have strong management teams in place for both our operating companies, and I am confident that together we can build a great future for CKE.”

The management changes announced Tuesday were prompted in part by the departure of Doyle, who is now chief operating officer at Hardee’s Food Systems Inc., based in Raleigh, N.C. Doyle joined CKE Restaurants in late 1992.

CKE Restaurants shares closed up 12.5 cents at $8.375 in New York Stock Exchange trading Tuesday.
