Lockheed Sees Possible Sunnyvale Cuts: The company said that if its $10-billion merger with Martin Marietta Corp. fails, it plans to “accelerate” a reduction of its missile and space operations in the Bay Area city. Lockheed, in its third-quarter filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, said such a move would require a pretax charge of about $200 million. The Sunnyvale plant’s employment has already plunged to 12,700 from 16,750 earlier this year because of defense spending cuts. Lockheed said it is also considering whether to close its commercial jet maintenance site in Tucson, where about 80 people work. That move would lead to a pretax charge of less than $40 million, Lockheed said.
