VAN NUYS : Red Cross Holds ‘Jail’ Fund-Raiser

Share

Go to jail and help raise money for the American Red Cross.

That’s the idea for this year’s “Jail and Bail” fund-raiser at the Valley district office of the Red Cross in Van Nuys.

Valley residents are invited to “turn themselves in” to the Red Cross office in Van Nuys next Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Participants will be fingerprinted, photographed and then appear before “Judge” Bobby Sherman, singer and actor, who will charge them with “having a kind heart” or “being of a generous nature,” said Julia Montez, executive director of the Valley district office.

The participants must then post “bail” of $300 or get thrown in the “slammer,” where they can make as many phone calls as they need to raise the money for bail.

“We invite the community to join in the festivities and be a part of your Red Cross,” said Montez.

The agency hopes to raise $20,000 through the event.
