Davis Love and Fred Couples, in search of a record third consecutive title for the United States, held a three stroke lead Thursday when darkness halted play in the rain-delayed opening round of the World Cup of Golf in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

The pair, at 12 under par, were three shots ahead of the Zimbabwe team of Mark McNulty and Tony Johnstone when poor light forced them to stop after 16 holes.

They will finish this morning, after which the 32 teams will tee off for the second round.

Zimbabwe, playing without Nick Price, is two strokes ahead of Italy and three ahead of Ireland.

Jim Albus played the back nine in a sizzling 29 en route to a course-record eight-under-par 64 and a one-shot lead after the opening round of the season-ending $1.35-million Senior Tour Championship at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Albus’ effort, which included nine birdies, broke the Dunes Club record of 67 set in 1960 by Billy Joe Patton in the Southern Amateur.

“It was one of those fun days you’re always hoping to have--and I had it,” said Albus, 54.

Rocky Thompson was second after a bogey-free round of 65.
