Orange County Almanac
Olive is one of Orange County’s most distinctive and historic areas.
The district at the northern edge of Orange is marked by its rolling hills and odd assortment of bungalows, modern ranch homes and some half-century-old commercial buildings, including a stylish gas station.
Olive is also home to an aging Sunkist orange packinghouse.
The area was founded in the 1870s and for decades served as the gateway to Orange County for travelers entering from Santa Ana Canyon.
Olive was once home to two pioneering families: the Yorbas and Peraltas.
Today
HomeAid Orange County tonight will auction several elaborate fantasy playhouses built by some of the county’s best-known home builders.
Among the items up for bid are a storybook cottage, a Mickey’s Toontown House, a lighthouse and a California bungalow complete with built-in television and VCR. Many have working plumbing, electrical fixtures and other accents. Last year’s houses went for prices ranging from $2,000 to $16,000. Proceeds benefit HomeAid. Information: (714) 647-2600.
