Red Cross Offers Safety Classes Tailored to Child-Care Providers

Share

The Red Cross is offering safety classes to teach child-care providers how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid, prevent injuries and identify signs of child abuse.

The 15-hour course is designed to meet the requirements of a state law that goes into effect Jan. 1. The law requires that at least one staff member of a child care center be trained in preventive health practices, first aid and pediatric CPR as a condition of licensing.

Under the law, day-care centers must have one staff member with the necessary training available whenever children are present, Red Cross spokeswoman Judy Iannaccone said.

A two-part class will be offered Nov. 13 and 20, Nov. 16 and 23, Nov. 21 and 28, and Nov. 22 and 29. All classes will be at 600 N. Parkcenter Drive, she said.

Participants will receive certification in infant and child CPR, which is valid for one year, and California Child Health and Safety, which is valid for three years. The fee is $55 and incudes two textbooks, Iannaccone said.
