Jamal Mashburn and Jim Jackson came out galloping and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks hung on for the joy ride.

Mashburn set a team record with 50 points and Jackson added a career-high 38 as the Mavericks defeated the Chicago Bulls, 124-120, in overtime Saturday night, ending a 12-game losing streak against the Bulls.

“Usually I’ve had two good scorers on teams that I coached, but not who took on the scoring load like these guys did tonight. I guess we kind of went with them,” Dallas Coach Dick Motta said. “Sometimes you’ve just got to ride those horses.”

Jackson scored seven points in overtime after scoring 16 in the fourth quarter. Mashburn had 17 in the first quarter.

Mashburn’s previous career high was 37 points, accomplished twice last season when he was a rookie.

The Maverick record of 49 was set by Mark Aguirre against the Philadelphia 76ers on Jan. 28, 1985.

Jackson’s layup with 21 seconds to play in regulation gave the Mavericks a 109-107 lead, but Will Perdue of the Bulls was fouled by Popeye Jones with seven seconds left. Perdue, who scored 19 points, made both free throws.

Jones missed a last-second shot, forcing overtime.

Houston 100, New Jersey 84--Hakeem Olajuwon had 31 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the unbeaten Rockets at East Rutherford, N.J.

The Rockets, who are 6-0 after opening last season with 15 consecutive victories, haven’t lost a game in November since Nov. 28, 1992, when they dropped a 108-99 decision to the Utah Jazz.
