Family Story
In “Say Howdy to Two Very Different Ranches” (July 17), Christopher Reynolds indicated that he wasn’t sure when the Eatons bought their ranch. The ranch was previously owned by my great-uncle Austin Devol. My grandmother and Austin Devol’s wife were sisters.
My grandfather was living in the Platte River Valley in southern Wyoming in 1901-02 and lost his job when a mine closed. They moved up to Wolf Creek and my grandfather worked on the ranch until he heard there was work at a new smelter in Douglas, Ariz. I have my grandparent’s diaries, plus a photograph of the big ranch house, which I can still see in the picture accompanying your article.
