LA CRESCENTA : Athletic Club Collects Food for Homeless
A canned-food drive at the Foothill Athletic Club is wrapping up its final week to help a program that feeds the homeless in Los Angeles.
“We do this every year,” said Rick Crews, manager of the club at 3831 Lowell Ave., La Crescenta.
The drive raises about 950 pounds of canned food each year. Club members and the general public drop off the cans in a bin just inside the club entrance.
“It’s getting full already,” said Crews. Members who bring in five cans or more can bring a guest to the club free. The monthlong drive ends Monday.
The donated food is given to the LIFE organization, which stands for “Love Is Feeding Everyone,” Crews said.
The food drive is in its fifth year.
