IBM, Seagate Settle Disk-Drive Technology Suit: International Business Machines Corp. and Seagate Technology Inc. said the terms of the settlement were confidential. The two companies also said they have entered into a cross-licensing agreement, but gave no further details. The litigation involved a former IBM employee who left in 1991 to go to work for Seagate. IBM filed suit against Seagate and the former employee in October, 1991, to “prevent the unlawful transfer of trade secrets,” an IBM spokesman said. The case had been scheduled to go to trial early next year in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis. Scotts Valley, Calif.-based Seagate, which is the largest independent disk drive maker, makes and sells several products that use magneto-resistive head technology.
