Father Louis Knight, Founding Pastor of St. Edward’s in Dana Point, Dies at 70

Father Louis F. Knight, a founding pastor of St. Edward’s Roman Catholic Church, died Monday of heart disease. Knight, who had been hospitalized for the past three weeks, was 70.

Knight, a native of Scotland, came to Los Angeles in 1953 to work at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In 1969, he was named the founding pastor of St. Edward’s Parish, where he oversaw the construction of the parish complex, including the church, school and offices.

He is survived by his brother, James Knight of Florida, and his nephew, James McDonald of Pacific Palisades.

A vigil will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Edward’s Church, 33926 Calle la Primavera in Dana Point. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m., also at St. Edward’s Church, with burial to follow at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest.
