CAMARILLO : Charity Auction Focuses on Fantasy

Share

Fantasy is the theme of an auction and dinner scheduled for Camarillo on Saturday to benefit Catholic Charities of Ventura County.

Catholic Charities Director A. Diane Martell said 21 donated “fantasy packages” will be auctioned at the event, including a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise for two, a trip to the Grand Canyon and vacations in Ojai and New Orleans.

Also in keeping with the fantasy theme, guests will be able to purchase $25 “fantasy balloons,” with mystery prizes attached worth between $25 and $200, Martell said. In addition, a magician is scheduled to perform.

Martell said the idea is to make fantasies come true, not just for bidders who attend the $100-a-person benefit at Spanish Hills Country Club, but for people who will be helped with the money raised.

“The event is to benefit those families in Ventura County for whom three meals a day is a fantasy, those children for whom a permanent place to call home is a fantasy,” Martell said.

Organizers said they hope the auction will raise $30,000 to help fund Catholic Charities’ social services, counseling, child care and elder care programs, which last year served more than 29,000 people in Ventura County.

The dinner is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., with the auction to follow. For tickets or more information call Catholic Charities at 643-4694.
