SIMI VALLEY : City Hires Consultant for Quake Funds

Share

With more than $3.5 million in housing assistance available to residents whose homes were damaged in the Jan. 17 earthquake, the Simi Valley City Council has hired a consultant to handle the funding.

Under the program, 336 loans and grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 will be awarded to needy residents.

The city has received more than 250 applications, and many residents will qualify for both a loan and a grant, said Dulce Conde-Sierra, deputy director of housing.

The city will pay Comprehensive Housing Services of Fountain Valley $367,000 to administer the program over an 18-month period.

Hiring a consultant rather than performing the work in-house will save the city about $83,000, according to a study reviewed by the council.
