LA MIRADA : Housing Project Wins Tentative City Approval

Share

The City Council has tentatively approved plans for a housing development that will accommodate 2,000 residents on a 90-acre site that once was part of an oil field.

Chevron Land and Development Co., which owns the vacant parcel between Beach Boulevard and Hillsborough Drive, plans to build 214 detached single-family homes, 102 townhouses and 450 condominiums.

Don Means, a Chevron project manager, estimated the development’s cost at $90 million to $100 million. About $1 million will go toward the removal of oil contamination in the property’s soil.

If the cleanup goes as planned and the council grants final approval, Chevron expects to break ground in mid-1995.

The council will hold a public hearing on the project’s tract map Tuesday and decide whether to grant final approval, Sloan said.
