PLACENTIA : Council to Spend $2.7 Million to Build 13-Acre Park

The City Council has agreed to spend $2.7 million to create a 13-acre park, the last expected to be built in the city.

East Placentia Park, to be built at the corner of Alta Vista and Jefferson streets, will feature two Little League baseball diamonds and one adult baseball field, two soccer fields, a day-care center, a community room, two “tot lots” with playgrounds for small children, restrooms, a concession stand and three parking lots with space for 120 cars, said Christopher Becker, director of public works.

City officials had expected to spend $3.1 million to build the park, but Becker and his staff reworked the specifications for the project and obtained lower bids after the council rejected higher ones in June.

“Instead of the real Cadillac, we still have a workable project but we have saved some money,” Becker told the council.

Construction is expected to begin in January and the park is expected to open by spring, he said.
