Everything you always wanted to know about UCLA, USC, the series, and the game Saturday at the Rose Bowl:

The Bruins can’t go to a bowl this season, but can make it four in a row over the Trojans for the first time. . . .

USC leads the series, 34-22-7, and has outpointed UCLA, 1,236-983. . . .

Tickets, priced at $30, are still available. In fact, an agency has placed newspaper advertisements this week not for Saturday’s game, but the USC-Notre Dame game on Nov. 26 at the Coliseum. . . .

ABC will televise both USC-UCLA and Oregon- Oregon State at 12:30 p.m. on a regional basis. We’ll get the Bruins and Trojans on Channel 7, but, presumably, also frequent updates from Corvallis. . . .

USC’s turnover ratio of plus-1.4 per game is best in the Pacific 10 Conference and fifth in the nation. UCLA’s ratio of minus-0.4 is ninth in the conference. . . .

After O.J. Simpson’s 64-yard run during USC’s 21-20 victory in 1967, Coach John McKay said, “A good back might have made the eight yards for a first down. O.J. made it to the Rose Bowl.” . . .

To the winner goes the Victory Bell. . . .

The bell, which used to hang from a Southern Pacific locomotive, was rung after every point scored by UCLA teams in 1939-40. Then it was stolen by USC students. It became a prize in 1942. . . .

The kicking might be the finest at the Rose Bowl since the World Cup. . . .

UCLA punter Darren Schager is averaging 43.9 yards, which ranks eighth nationally and first in the conference. USC’s John Stonehouse is second in the conference and 11th nationally with a 43.7 average. . . .

After the Trojans’ 52-0 win in 1931, the series was discontinued until 1936. In September that year, Times columnist Braven Dyer predicted the Bruins would tie the Trojans, 7-7, when the rivalry resumed. He was proven exactly right. . . .

UCLA is celebrating its 75th anniversary and Charles Young his 25th anniversary as chancellor. . . .

USC, which was founded in 1880, maintains one of the 27 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation. . . .
