OC HIGH: STUDENT NEWS AND VIEWS : Disney Album Is Rapped : <i> Teen review of books, music, movies and other things of interest. : </i>

With all the rap and hip-hop songs making No. 1 on the music charts, it was just a matter of time before Disney decided to join the bandwagon. The new Disney album, titled “Mickey Unrapped,” recently hit the shelves.

Most of the songs on the album parody hit rap singles. Take the first single released to radio stations, “Whoomp! There it Went,” a duet featuring Tag Team and Mickey Mouse. The song’s childish lyrics and old beat make it a chore just to sit through.

Color Me Badd attempts to add flavor with their a cappella song “Color of Music,” but the song just doesn’t make it. The Salt-N-Pepa/En Vogue song “What a Man” gets chopped to pieces by Minnie Mouse singing “What a Mouse.” Here’s a sample lyric: “In my life he’s No. 1--the really big cheese.”

Disney shelled out some money and convinced Whoopi Goldberg to sing “Bowwow to the Beat.” She should have stopped after “Sister Act,” and “MC Mickey” should have stuck to cartoons.

Children under the age of 10 may find this album amusing. High-schoolers won’t enjoy it, unless they worship that mouse. Overall disappointing. Grade: C minus.
