LONG BEACH : City Councilman to Seek Dana’s Supervisorial Post

Douglas S. Drummond, a Long Beach city councilman since 1990 and currently vice mayor, announced Thursday that he will run for the 4th District supervisorial seat to be vacated by Deane Dana.

Dana, a supervisor for 16 years, announced this week that he will retire when his term expires in 1996 and endorsed his chief deputy, Don Knabe, to be his successor.

Drummond said he set his sights on the supervisor’s seat because he has enjoyed public service and because problems in the county pose “serious challenges.”

“The county has not done a very good job of economizing; they have not made enough cutbacks to deal with economic realities,” Drummond said.

Drummond, 57, was in the Long Beach Police Department 29 years before retiring at the rank of commander in 1988.
