SYLMAR : Eye Care Firm Aids Abused Children

Share

Lens Crafters will provide free eye care, prescriptions and glasses for 48 abused and neglected children who reside at the Hathaway Children’s Services residential campus in Sylmar.

The gift is part of an annual charitable program that targets needy children in Southern California communities. The eye care and glasses will be administered at Lens Crafters locations in Northridge and Sherman Oaks.

“This gift is a tremendous help to us,” said Peggi Preston, development associate for Hathaway Children’s Services, located on a 300-acre residential campus.

The campus is home to 120 children, ages 5 to 18. Cecil B. DeMille once owned this land that overlooks the San Fernando Valley.

“Our children are all wards of the court who’ve been removed from their homes,” Preston said. “They’ve been sexually abused, physically abused and, in many cases, simply abandoned. Most of them have never had the money to afford proper eye care.”

Preston said Hathaway children have a continuous need for donations of health services, including eye care and corrective lenses.
