REWARD: It sure didn’t take long for the Antelope Valley Union School District to get results from its new policy of rewarding students who snitch on their peers. Try one day. On Thursday, a high school junior carrying a BB-gun was turned in by two classmates (B1). . . . Not everyone, however, is crazy about the idea. “You’re risking your life for $25,” said freshman Angela Villa.

HOOKED: Boys in the Valley are no different than anywhere else when it comes to their favorite video games--they’re big on blood. “The best game?” asks Encino’s Kelly Mower. “Mortal Kombat II. There’s fighting. There’s blood.” . . . And there’s plenty to choose from. The technology keeps getting better, with spectacular graphics and faster action. See Valley Life! Page 10.

WHIZ KID: Is he the next Bill Gates? Probably not, but give Northridge’s Jay Leibowitz a break--he’s only 12. Leibowitz started his own software firm, and says he makes about $2,000 a month. “It’s not hard. You program and upload and pray to God that people will buy it,” he says. . . . Don’t worry, he has a life. He plays tennis and golf, and practices piano and flute. See Valley Life! Page 29.

SHOOTOUT: The Shark, Arnie, and Fuzzy--it will be quite a collection of characters at the Shark Shootout golf tournament that begins today at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks (C10). For information, call (805) 379-2664. . . . Big news was made off the course Thursday as plans were unveiled for Fox’s new televised tour (C1).

IN THE FAMILY: Ted Iacenda will always be the little brother, but he’s doing big things on the football field. Ted of Hart High is among the area’s leading rushers, and a source of great pride to older brother, Andy, who also starred there (C8). . . . “I knew his potential,” says Andy, “but when he scored five touchdowns against San Fernando, my mouth dropped.”
